Writing your Business Vision and Business Mission statements

People often get confused between their business vision and mission statements.  

Your BUSINESS VISION is based on the future you would like your business to contribute to. 

This is the 'true north' of your business. It is the thing which keeps you motivated when things get tough and inspires you to keep delivering your product or service. 

Your BUSINESS MISSION is based on the tangible goals you need to achieve in order to fulfil your BUSINESS VISION.

Your mission helps you contribute to your vision.  What tangible things do you do, how do those things contribute to your vision?

EXAMPLES

It is easy to give examples from businesses who have a stong purpose to improve the world on a really large scale, we've used examples from businesess who may not think they have an inspiring vision:

Vision
We have have a vision for everyone on the planet to have free access to fresh, clean drinking water.
Mission
We aim to sell 2 million rolls of planet friendly toilet paper every year so we can dedicate 50% of our profits to improving the water supply for people who don't have access to clean drinking water.

Vision
We belive in a future where humans and nature can exist in complete harmony.
Mission
Our organisation will help over 1000,000 Australian homes install rooftop Solar power to power their home with 100% solar energy by 2025.

Vision
Everyone deserves to live in a home which is safe, comfortable and affordable.
Mission
We help low income families secure affordable, sustainable homeloans so they can move out of public housing and into a permenant home.

Vision
The physical and mental wellbeing of women is essential to a socially rich, functioning society.
Mission 
We aim to educate more than 200,000 young women how to use food to bring their bodies into natural harmony so they can be happier, healthier as they grow.
